Green Infrastructure is "the use of engineered Systems that manage stormwater by utilizing natural proccesses"
Examples of Green Infrastructure:
Green Alleyways
Advantages of Green Infrastructure
· Environmentally, the advantage of Green Infrastructure is that it allows stormwater to move into the earth and replenish groundwater and then, filtered by the soil, to flow into tributaries and streams. This prevents the water from running over sidewalks and roads and picking up surface contaminants from the urban landscaping. Furthermore, groundwater moves more slowly and steadily than surface water, preventing flooding and ensuring a steady supply of water in case of drought
· Economically, Green Infrastructure has the ability to create a plethora of jobs, many of which don’t require a college education.
· G.I. designs are less expensive to construct and maintain than the piping systems used in “gray infrastructure”.
· G.I. can also create hidden savings in health care dollars by preventing illness from drinking unclean water.
